Xanadu Shiraz 2010

Xanadu Shiraz 2010

Winery sample; and a recent arrival. Last Friday afternoon in fact. Estate grown from their Stevens Road vineyard in the Margaret River. Screwcap. 14.5% abv. RRP $29. A blend of straight Shiraz and some Shiraz co-fermented with Viognier. I suppose this allows the winemaker to control the amount of Viognier character in the final product.

Initially quite closed, but it opens up quickly to show plums, rich berries, vanilla, nutmeg, apricots and some nice florals. On the palate, there is berried fruits and light spices, cherry compote, full bodied flavours with a spicy edge. Nice balance and some restraint (dryness) in the midpalate. Probably not one for the anti-apricotista movement, but I didn’t mind it at all. 91-92 points. Needs a couple of years. Drink 2015-2010.
