Weingut Max Ferd. Richter Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Kabinett 2007

Weingut Max Ferd. Richter Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Kabinett 2007

Not a generous nose at all, just showing some apples and sprinkle of spice. The palate displayed ripe fruits, lightly stewed apples, lemons, sugared grapefruits, spice, with just a touch of musk on the finish and average length. There is a lovely roundedness to the palate that makes it very easy to drink, though it is not what I’d call memorable. Now there’s another Richter Kabinett with a similar label except that it has a green background – I will have to take it for a spin around block asap.

I tasted at the domaine a week or so ago and was unmoved by the majority of the 07 wines and yet have loved previous vintages. Not sure what went on but they just lacked spark. Disclaimer: I import other brands of German riesling.

The other green labelled one will be the Brauneberger Juffer.

I’ve found Richter a bit erratic in the past.

Is the Brauneberger Juffer worth a try?

I’d try it for contrast. I like the Braueneberger Juffer gear from Fritz Haag (including the Sonnenuhr ones), but haven’t had any from Richter,
