It’s not a rioja and I believe it’s the first tempranillo I’ve tried but for $20-$25 I thought Blue Poles 2007 is pretty good – think it’ll be released within the next couple of months. Pity you didn’t catch up with MarkG when he was in Brisbane last week.

Valdepenas is poor man’s rioja, and to be honest it shows in these cheap low end wines…There is some good, low cost stuff made there tho.
