St Hugo Grenache Shiraz Mataro 2010

St Hugo Grenache Shiraz Mataro 2010

From the Jacob’s Creek stable. It looks like St Hugo is no longer just a Coonawarra Cabernet, but the brand has been extended to include a Shiraz, Cabernet/Shiraz and this wine. Is this appropriate? I don’t know, and if I could have been bothered I might have done some research on the subject. The nose shows pepper, spice and red fruits, vanilla, perhaps some dusty confection too. A nice medium weight on the palate, acid driven, quite earthy too, with woody spices that punch through to the end of the palate. Pleasant enough. 14.0% abv, screwcap, about $29 from Dans, not the best value-for-money, but not the worst either. 87.5 points.
