I don’t know about you, but when I have some leftover bottles I like to do some blending. I have done heaps of Shiraz/Cabernet blends, but at the moment I am trying Shiraz/Pinot. And in the glass at the moment is 50% Epsilon Shiraz 2007 and 50% macforbes EB1 Pinot Noir 2005. I like it because the Pinot has knocked some of the sweetness off the Shiraz, and added a layer of complexity. Perhaps I have a calling….

Definitely a blend with some objective merit, historical precedent notwithstanding. Especially with Shiraz from regions that produce lighter styles, I should think.
After my trade tasting in Sydney on Monday I blended lots of wines rather than take 50 bottles with small amounts in them. Sacrilege I know … I didn’t blend varietals too much. All the rieslings went into two bottles, all the champers went into two, and all the cab merlots and syrahs were blended together. The chard blend wasn’t so successful but the champers were good and the reds still lovely last night! The rieslings have the longest life so I saved them for last (tonight).
