I have liked PHI wines in the past, and this continues the trend, despite the difficult vintage. An interesting nose, showing cherries and stalk, with minerals and musk, and a touch smoke and dried meat. Nuanced. The palate was initially a bit hard and dare I say it, rustic, but luckily with time it opened up and refined itself, displaying cherry fruits, rose petals and minerals, evolving later to the raspberry spectrum. A touch of stalk on the finish. Silky mouthfeel and supple tannins. An enjoyable wine. Not sure about the longevity, but I tend to err on the more cautious side, and would be drinking it over the short term.

Hey Linc, do you think it’s problem is that the smoke might dominate the fruit over time or do you just think it doesn’t have structure for longevity?
Cheers,
Simm
I thought it was pretty well structured, but I am worried about the smoke in any 2007 YV wine.
Hi there, I just opened and drank the above wine. Here’s my notes:
Bright brick red colour. Beautiful perfumed nose of freshley sliced strawberries, rhubarb crumble and some musky notes in the background. Wonderful complex palate of sweet strawberry fruit, some cold deli meat cuts with nice hints of fatty bacon. Stunning mouthfeel, grippy chalky tannins and long mouthwatering finish. 95 points.
