A Hunter Chardonnay from 40 year old vines on sandy loam, same soil as the HVD vineyard. And the wine only got a quick tour of the barrel room: 35% new French oak for 6 months. No malolactic fermentation.
Quite floral, white peaches and citrus fruits, glossy lemons, a bit of musk too. The palate is tight, citrus fruits again, lemon, lime, mandarin and orange, musky fruits, quite rich and pithy, very flavoursome, finishing with a dry and crisp twang. Excellent length and very satisfying. Looks great now and should take a bit of aging. A great new direction for this wine.
ps. This is about 4 weeks away from release.
