Hubert Lignier Gevrey-Chambertin 2000

Hubert Lignier Gevrey-Chambertin 2000

I recently read a profile of Domaine Lucie et Auguste Lignier on the Burgundy Report. Here’s a link. Anyway, it got me thinking about some Hubert Lignier wines I purchased several years ago, and that perhaps it was time to try them. And I’m glad I did, because though this one was enjoyable, it is certainly at its peak, or perhaps a little past it. A light red. Bold aromas, glossy cherries, earth and some spice. On the lighter side of medium bodied, rounded flavours with red cherries, brown spices and dried meats. Not terribly complex, but has some poise. Has some acid on the finish. Very nice with a potato and ham frittata. Drink now.

I have to comment because this blog needs some action 🙂 This seems as good a place as any to confirm Eurocentric will be importing the Lucie et Auguste Lignier range starting with the 07 vintage. They seemed a bit overpriced from the previous importer. Anyway, I sent my minion there to taste and he came away in raptures. One of the best in Morey St Denis, and subsequent vintages will be even better, he reckons. I will investigate further in March. The 07 order is confirmed but I can add some magnums if anyone is interested. Hope to have them here March/April. Hijack over 🙂
