Domaine Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin “Les Goulots” 1er cru 2004

Domaine Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin "Les Goulots" 1er cru 2004

I think I read in Burghound that Domaine Fourrier was one of the few producers who braved the forecasts in 2004 and didn’t pick early, and thus avoided the green underripe characters that dominate this vintage. And on first tasting, back in 2007 I suppose, I agreed with his view of things. So it’s weird now that 5 years later I am not really enjoying their wines that much, and strangely, other like Jadot are looking better; admittedly from a very low starting point. Anyway, on to the wine. Plummy fruit, stalk and confection on the nose. Nice body, red fruits like cherries and plums, creamy oak, a bit of sappiness, with some dry tobacco leaf and a touch of green bean/stalk on the finish. But that is probably too critical. Silky tannins btw. Quite pleasant, but not as good as I remember. 88 points.
