A blend of 80% Grenache, 9% Syrah, 6% Mourvedre and 5% miscellaneous varietals. For those that are interested, the other 10 allowable varietals are Cinsault, Clairette, Picardan, Picpoul, Roussanne, Bourboulenc, Muscardin, Vaccaree, Terret and Counoise.
Medium red in colour. An extraordinary nose: roasted meats, kirsch, herbs, pepper, red cherries and blackberries – sweet and savoury at the same time. The palate is pure red fruits, sumptuous and voluptuous, seemless and slippery, meltingly soft tannins and tremendous length. Not a trace of brett here – it is as clean as a whistle, and speaking of whistles, toot toot, all aboard the Pegau train. This is quite a contrast to the 2001 Cuvee Reservee which needs time; it is great straight off the bat.
