De Bortoli Yarra Valley Reserve Release Syrah 2008

Three bottles now, and this is the last time I will trust the opinion of a critic when buying a six pack on spec. White asparagus, green stalks, some mulch and smoke. Red fruits. There is some finesse on the palate, and silky tannins with clean fruits, but it is stalky and the finish has some green notes. Tinny? Quite sophisticated, but not a flavour profile that pushes my buttons. Sealed under screwcap. Somewhat improved on the second night. 88 points, but not for me.

Phew – dodged that one – i had case a case of 2008 regular pinot & two were ok but the rest were reductive tinny & woeful…..

Yes, me too. Bought Bannockburn Pinot Noir 2008 on critic’s review (96 points no less) and a truly awful wine.

Michel, I didn’t see the appeal in the ’08 de borts pinot either.

I never liked it much FWIW.

    You are wise
