Bodegas Enrique Mendoza Estrecho Monastrell 2003

Bodegas Enrique Mendoza Estrecho Monastrell 2003

From Alicante in Spain. Cork. 14.0% abv. I had a bottle of this with friends many years ago. At the time I thought a few years in the cellar would see much improvement in the wine. So here it is. A decent colour, red more than brown but smelling old and leathery, old cherry confit, and also showing some raisin characters. The palate is fine, well fine-ish, strongly acidic, with really not much else. Reasonable enough, but for me it’s too old; some old wine is, like, just old wine. In the end I blended it with some juicy Barossa Shiraz and that salvaged the situation. Drink 2007-2010.
