2008 Van Volxem Alte Reben Riesling

VV 003Dry Riesling from the Saar in Germany.  Different to the Australian idiom – not better or worse, jus different.

It has the early drinking hallmarks of the 2008 vintage with its classic proportions.  The spatlese level fruit is sweet and lovely, its yellow and orange fruits have been touched by brown spices. A waxy texture goes with all that, and probably a few grams of sugar left in this for added drinking pleasure.  Acids are modest, and the slight honeyed richness of a few years bottle age is present.  Lovely drinking now at its 12% alcohol, may go longer but why wait. 91/100
