2005 Chateau Moulin Haut Laroque

Fronsac, Bordeaux.Chateau_Moulin_Haut_Laroque_643Likely a merlot Cabernet Franc blend, and it shows in so many ways.  Slightly cloudy ruby red to look at, this smells of tobacco leaf, cedar, salted dutch licorice and ribena.  Quite attractive really, for a group of varietals that nary passes my lips.  Front palate follows the nose correctly, and then some of the cabernet family green elements bob to the surface, green pea at first, then tomato leaf and pencil shavings on the finish.  This is substantially mid palate in its profile, perhaps more Cabernet Sauvignon would have rounded out the back palate a bit.  Persistent, with an adequate dose of well judged oak tannin and most satisfying with a tasty piece of rib fillet.  Drinking very nicely now, I expect this wil hold for some time longer. 87/100
